this is what I’d like to say

“I’m busy, if you aren’t my doctor and you keep calling my house…leave a message.  Please note: I won’t call you back, I’m not answering because I don’t want to talk on the phone either to you or in general (you guess), and my husband isn’t here and won’t be for two weeks (call back for him then).”

But I won’t, because I’m nice.  I’m just going to keep on ignoring the phone and seething privately about who is probably trying to call me.

husband overseas

From this experience I’ve learned that there is a lot that I can do on my own.  That is great.  I’ve kept me alive, the cats alive, all but one of the fish alive, and most of my husband’s plants are kind of alive.  I’ve learned that I can cook some things, that I can take care of a ton of things and generally get stuff done.

I’ve also learned what is frustrating and awful though.  I built a bathroom cabinet, but I can’t hang it.  It weighs like 40 pounds and I can’t hold it up by myself and screw the screws into the wall at the same time.

I can’t get the apartment fully furnished.  I was going to order the furniture so it would be delivered, but it won’t be here before I start work.  I can’t pick it up because first I have to figure out how to get a 60 pound box into the car on my own, then up three flights of stairs.  The rest of the furniture is about the same weight.  There isn’t anyone here to help me, so it’s just me.

While it doesn’t seem like much, it’s enough to turn my day from a normal one, to a really crappy one.  As these are the last things I need to really do to finish the apartment and get the rest of our stuff unpacked, it’s annoying.

accident prone

What is it about husband’s being away that make us so accident prone?  It probably doesn’t happen to everyone, but I’ve come across quite a few wives it does  happen to.

Today I managed to fall and skin my knee, and in the process hurt my ankle and wrist.  For the last 40something days I’ve spent my time getting cut, bruised, dodging knives that I’ve dropped, falling, and generally being injured.  I fell in my own home after tripping on nothing one day.  Of course this happened in front of the maintenance guys.

All I can assume is that it is stress from him being gone and having to deal with everything here on my own.  Stress does a million things including making one more clumsy.

because I can

Post from the bathtub, that is.  Technology lets us do weird things sometimes.

New favorite quote -

“It seemed to me that every time I arrived anywhere these days, people said, “Thank God you’re here” and abandoned me to whatever crisis they’d just initiated.”

It’s from The Little Lady Agency by Hester Browne.  Sometimes it’s fun to read fluff books with no meaning.  It’s also nice to find a word, phrase or sentence that describes exactly how we feel.  Dorky to take time out to post this now?  Yes.  Better to do it now than to have to reread the book later to find it again?  Yes.  Should I have just folded down the page and posted it later?  Yes…but that one just occurred to me.

fun times (not) and yummy food

I get to go drive for hours, to deal with my mother-in-law next week.  I get to stuff my car full of my husband’s childhood things so she doesn’t actually sell them.  Yeah, she is trying to sell off her kids stuff.

After my husband called her, asked her not to do it, and specifically asked her not to sell a certain item…she said okay, she’d wait and not have a garage sale.  Of course she did and she sold the item he asked her not to.  Seriously, what the fuck?  And now, I get to deal with her with his siblings who really don’t care about anything she does anymore.  Also, this trip will cost me about $200.00.  Not amused.

It’s exhausting dealing with her drama.  It’s been going on for too long and I’m really ready to cut her and a bunch of other people just out of my life.  It puts my husband in a bad position though…so who knows what I’ll do.

AND……….

I made THE best rice crispy treats tonight.  Here…

3 Tbl of soy butter
4 cups of puffed brown rice
2 cups of traditional rice crispies
10 oz of small, organic, all natural marshmallows
1/2 cup of small, organic, all natural marshmallows (which are to be inserted last)

Melt butter, add 10 oz. of marshmallows and melt.  Once it is melted, add the cereals a little at a time and stir until totally coated.  Once all of that is in, add the 1/2 cup of marshmallows, stir them in fast and then press into a 9×13 inch pan.  I used a glass pan and lined it with wax paper.  The rice crispy treats are really easy to get out.  I added WAY more than 1/2 cup of marshmallows at the end to be honest, and it is amazing…but it is incredibly sticky.  You can add more if you want…I ended up adding about 5 oz actually.

Picture below!  (Clearly I have already eaten some)

So the two cereals both cost about $3.60 apiece, the two bags of marshmallows cost about $3.99 apiece (from Whole Foods), the wax paper cost $1.99 (at Whole Foods) and because I bought the soy butter awhile ago, I have no idea what the cost is unfortunately.  The good thing is, you only use half of the rice crispies so you’ll only need to buy the marshmallows for a second batch.

What is the point to the nice, fancy WordPress themes if they don’t work out of the box?  After hours trying to make a few of them work from some theme site my husband has a subscription with, I gave up and found a free, simple theme that did exactly what it said it would do.
